Ceasing of plant operations by the owner company (Hifrensa).

1990

Ministerial Order on definitive shutdown and establishing the maintenance conditions for the plant in the safe shutdown condition.

1991

Hifrensa initiates Level 1 dismantling or conditioning tasks.

1994

Submittal by Enresa of the Vandellós I Dismantling and Decommissioning Plan.

Submittal of the Environmental Impact Study.

1997

Environmental Impact Statement. Completion of conditioning or Level 1 tasks.

1998

Approval of the plant Dismantling and Decommissioning Plan.

Transfer to Enresa of ownership of the plant.

Initiation of Level 2 dismantling.

1999

Approval by the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) of the Active Parts Dismantling Plan and initiation of work.

2000

Confinement and sealing of the reactor shroud.

First shipment of Low and Intermediate Level Wastes from dismantling to the El Cabril centralised disposal facility.

Completion of the Materials Declassification Process Test Plan.

Initiation of works on infrastructures for the dormancy period.

2001

Initiation of shipments of declassified materials to the recycling plants.

Assembly of the reactor shroud outdoor protective structure.

Submittal to the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) of the Restoration Plan for the released site and documentation required for the dormancy period.

2002

Approval by the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) of the surface clearance and combined clearance methodology.

Completion of disassembly of the reactor external structures.

2003

Completion of Level 2 Dismantling of the Vandellós I nuclear power plant.
