Framework Programme Projects and Enresa

The projects of the 5th, 6th and 7th EURATOM Framework Programmes in which Enresa has participated are as follows:

7th Framework Programme (2007-2013)

  • CARBOWASTE project: Treatment and storage of irradiated graphite and other carbonaceous wastes. Collaboration project.
  • MODERN project: Creation of a coherent reference framework at European level for radioactive waste storage facility monitoring activities. Collaboration project.
  • PETRUS II project: European university training and professional development in the area of long-term radioactive waste storage. Coordinated action.

6th Framework Programme (2002-2006)

  • CARD project: Study of the feasibility of a European Technology Platform for the definitive disposal of radioactive wastes. Coordinated action.
  • CND project: Database on European information and experiences in relation to the dismantling and licensing of nuclear facilities. This is a logical continuation of the 5th FP TND project. Coordinated action.
  • ESDRED project: Development of engineering and demonstration for the designs of radioactive waste storage facilities (construction of barriers, machinery for the movement and placing of containers and very large mass assemblies, development of low pH projected concretes). Integrated project.
  • FUNMIG project: Studies of the fundamental processes affecting radionuclide migration. Integrated project.
  • MICADO project: Evaluation of the uncertainty of models describing the spent fuel dissolution mechanism in radioactive waste storage facilities. Coordinated action.
  • NF PRO project: Study and modelling of the key physical processes affecting the near field engineered barrier.
  • OBRA project: Feasibility of a European observatory for the long-term management of radioactive wastes. Coordinated action.
  • PAMINA project: Application of behaviour assessment methodologies as a guideline for development of the safe case. Integrated project.
  • RED IMPACT project: Impact of partition, transmutation and waste reduction technologies in the definitive disposal of radioactive wastes. Specific research or focussed training projects.

5th Framework Programme (2000-2004)

  • BENCHPAR project: Guideline document for the incorporation of coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical processes in the evaluation of radioactive waste definitive disposal facility performance in a European context.
  • BENIPA project: Evaluation of the state of the art in the treatment of bentonite barriers in an assessment of the integrated performance of a radioactive waste disposal facility. Coordinated by Enresa.
  • BIOCLIM project: Sequential modelling of the biosphere systems subject to climate change for application in radioactive waste repositories.
  • CDD project: Compendium of the state of the art in dismantling and clearance.
  • COMPAS project: Comparison of European national strategies for the management of long-lived radioactive wastes.
  • CONTAINER CORROSION project: Long-term behaviour of candidate materials for spent fuel / high level waste containers.
  • CROP project: Establishment of a common European basis for the development/planning of geological disposal facilities for high level waste, spent fuel and long-lived intermediate level wastes.
  • EB project: Testing of the installation of engineered barriers in Opalinus clay. Coordinated by Enresa.
  • ECOCLAY II project: Effects of cement on the performance of the clay barrier – Phase II.
  • FEBEX II project: Full-scale test of engineered barriers for a high level radioactive waste disposal facility in granite. Phase II. Coordinated by Enresa.
  • GASNET project: Subject-specific network on the effect of gases in the safety assessment of radioactive waste definitive disposal facilities.
  • HE project: Heating test: thermo-hydro-mechanical processes in the vicinity of a heat source for application in the development of repositories.
  • INTERLAB ANÁLISIS project: Inter-comparison of radiochemical analyses performed by different European laboratories.
  • MODEX_REP project: Development of hydromechanical models of the Callovo-Oxfordian argillites of a deep geological disposal facility for radioactive wastes.
  • NET.EXCEL project: Radioactive waste management and disposal excellence network 1.
  • NANET project: European network for the revision of natural analogue studies and their applications in repository safety assessment and public communication.
  • PADAMOT project: Analysis of palaeohydrogeological data and modelling.
  • PROT.REPOSITORY project: Full-scale test of the Swedish KBS-3V concept for the deep geological disposal of radioactive wastes.
  • RETROCK project: Study of radionuclide retention and transport phenomena in the geosphere and application in safety assessment.
  • SFS project: Stability of spent fuel under repository conditions, definition of radionuclide source term.
  • SPIN project: Identification and checking of safety and performance indicators for use in the assessment of radioactive waste disposal facility performance.
  • TND project: Subject-specific network on dismantling and clearance.
  • TN ON MONITORING project: Subject-specific network on the role of monitoring in a staged approach to radioactive waste disposal.
  • VE project: Ventilation experiment in a drift of Opalinus clay. Coordinated by Enresa.
