Enresa financing

  • Following the approval of Royal Decree Law 5/2005, on Urgent Reforms to Promote Productivity and Improve Public Contracting, the costs generated in managing the radioactive waste from a nuclear power plant or its dismantling, prior to April 1st 2005, are financed by means of a system of up-front collections based on the application of a percentage fee on electricity sales.
  • The costs deriving from the management of wastes generated during nuclear power plant operation subsequent to March 31st 2005, as well as dismantling expenses, are covered by the plant licensees through anticipated billing.
  • The fees to be applied and billed by Enresa to the licensees of the nuclear power plants may be revised annually by Royal Decree, in an updated economic-financial report on the cost of the corresponding activities, contemplated in the General Radioactive Waste Plan.
  • The costs generated when Enresa manages radioactive wastes from other facilities, such as hospitals or laboratories, are billed to the producers at the moment of such wastes being collected.
  • The costs generated when Enresa manages radioactive wastes from the manufacturing of fuel assemblies, as in the case of those produced by the Juzbado facility in Salamanca, are paid up front by the manufacturer.
  • The financial revenues obtained from the management of investments corresponding to the Fund for the Financing of Activities included in the General Radioactive Waste Plan.
