Measurement of radioactivity levels

Enresa has implemented a quality management system that ensures compliance with the legislative and regulatory standards, guaranteeing safety in all its activities and meeting the requirements of standards UNE 73401 and UNE-EN ISO 9001.

In view of the diversity of the activities carried out by Enresa, the system has been organised around a single Quality Manual, which establishes the general requirements governing the company. In addition to this there is a quality programme for each project or activity describing compliance with the requirements in greater detail. A total of nine Quality Programmes have been developed for the activities, facilities and projects managed by Enresa. Finally, there is a set of common and specific procedures that go to complete the regulation of the system overall.

System reviews

A Quality Committee meets every six months to evaluate the efficiency of the quality management system implemented at Enresa. Among other things, this review covers Non-Conformities, Audit reports, the inspections performed and the degree of progress made with respect to the objectives mapped out.

The results of the review lead to proposals regarding areas for improvement and the measures to be taken to achieve such improvements.

Levels of quality

Each activity carried out by Enresa must fulfil different quality requirements, since the safety that must be ensured varies enormously from one activity to the next.

In this respect, 4 levels of quality are established:

  • Level I: Structures, activities, systems, equipment or components relating to nuclear safety.
  • Level II: Structures, activities, systems, equipment or components whose failure might imply a risk of contamination or radiation.
  • Level III: Structures, activities, systems, equipment or components whose failure would not imply a risk of contamination or radiation but that are necessary to ensure quality in management of the project.
  • Level IV: Structures, activities, systems, equipment or components not relating to nuclear safety and not necessary to ensure quality in management.

The quality requirements to be met by each structure, activity, system, item of equipment or component vary depending on the level of quality.

Management of suppliers

In view of its nature as a management company, Enresa works with numerous suppliers of services and products. Consequently, the quality of the work of these suppliers and of the products supplied has a substantial influence on the final quality of the work of the company.

In keeping with the nuclear standards in force, a systematic approach has been established for the evaluation of the suppliers of services and goods prior to the signing of the contracts and during their development.
