El presidente de Enresa participa en un desayuno-coloquio organizado por El Día de Córdoba

El presidente de Enresa, José Luis Navarro, participó hoy en un desayuno- coloquio organizado por El Día de Córdoba y el grupo Joly que tuvo lugar en el Hotel Hospes Palacio del Bailio en Córdoba. Durante su intervención, Navarro, quiso recordar los 30 años de gestión segura de El Cabril y profundizó en el protocolo de cierre ordenado de las centrales nucleares españolas que calificó de “muy prudente, ordenado y coherente”.

En este sentido, Navarro recordó que, en el caso de España, a “diferencia de otros países europeos”, el calendario de cierre es el resultado de un “acuerdo” entre Enresa, el Gobierno y las cuatro empresas propietarias de las instalaciones y que supuso el alargamiento de la vida media de las centrales españolas de 40 a 45,7 años. Desde entonces, añadió, las empresas han ido mostrando en las distintas autorizaciones que han tenido que solicitar “la firme voluntad de cumplirlo” y ve “improbable” que a día de hoy se vuelvan a poner de acuerdo para su modificación.

Durante el desayuno, el presidente de Enresa también aludió a la gestión del combustible gastado. Navarro insistió en que "los residuos que no pueden ir a El Cabril" acabarán en Almacenamiento Geológico Profundo (AGP) sobre el que hay unanimidad en la comunidad científica internacional.  Navarro explicó que, "como el AGP va a tardar muchos años en hacerse realidad", hay dos alternativas en España para gestionar esos residuos de alta actividad. Si bien España "inicialmente se había inclinado por el modelo de un solo almacén temporal centralizado", el llamado ATC, "ha habido obstáculos a la hora de materializar ese proyecto, debido a la falta de consenso social, político e institucional para encontrar ese emplazamiento temporal”, lamentó.

“Desgraciadamente no ha sido posible en España conseguir ese consenso, por lo que la solución es una alternativa que en otros países se está utilizando y que es igualmente segura, si bien es algo más cara, y que consiste en un almacén descentralizado en cada central nuclear”. Una decisión que Navarro entiende que se debería tomar “como muy tarde en 2023” incluida en el marco del nuevo Plan General de Residuos Radiactivos.

José Luis Navarro aprovechó también la tribuna cordobesa para responder a algunas dudas que los asistentes plantearon sobre el futuro del centro de almacenamiento de El Cabril. “Se puede decir que no ha cambiado nada desde 1992” y los residuos que llegarán a El Cabril “son los que se autorizaron hace 30 años”, que son “todos los residuos de España, nunca de fuera, y nunca residuos de alta actividad", subrayó. "El desmantelamiento y cierre de las centrales nucleares puede afectar a los años de vida de El Cabril por el tiempo que llevará, pero no al volumen de residuos que acogerá", puntualizó.
